Sindy Monson is a distinguished teacher, choreographer, and performer with over three decades of experience in the dance world. Early in her career, she performed professionally with renowned companies such as Cork City Ballet, Pendulum Arts Company, White Monkey Trip Dance Theatre, Dance Junction, and Sarah Allen Dancers, engaging in both neo-classical and contemporary works. Her artistic foundation is built on years of diverse experience across various dance forms, setting the stage for her later career in teaching and choreography.
Sindy holds a bachelor's degree from Middlesex University and pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Utah, where she studied under notable experts such as Ellen Bromberg (Screen Dance) and Sally S. Fitt (Dance Kinesiology). Her education has had a lasting impact on her professional practice, incorporating both the artistic and anatomical aspects of dance.
During her time at Utah, Sindy also danced with the Performers Dance Company, performing works by choreographers such as Trisha Brown, Sharee Lane, and Kaye Richards. In recognition of her dedication to working with young people facing addiction, she was honoured with the University’s Service Award in 2001.
As a highly qualified educator, Sindy holds certifications in RAD, IDTA, ISTD, Acrobatic Arts, and PBT, and has been a certified ballet teacher since 1992. Over the years, she has accumulated extensive teaching experience, delivering her expertise to students of all ages and abilities. Sindy has also guest lectured on Graham-based and Cunningham-based techniques at prestigious institutions such as The Place, Tring Park School, and Middlesex University. In 2004, she became a full-time professor at The Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, where she not only taught but also created several notable choreographic works.
In 2011, Sindy founded Ballet Academy Scotland, which quickly grew under her leadership to serve 190 students. Her passion for fostering young talent led her to establish the Ballet Grand Prix – Scotland in 2015, creating significant opportunities for aspiring dancers. She also founded the Scottish Youth Ballet Company and introduced associate classes to further nurture the development of emerging artists.
In addition to her educational and choreographic endeavours, Sindy has recently launched two groundbreaking initiatives: Contemporary Ballet Choreographer and Contemporary Ballet Artist. These events were designed to provide a platform for emerging choreographers and dancers, encouraging creative collaboration and the development of new works. These initiatives aim to promote Contemporary Ballet as an evolving art form and have quickly gained recognition within the dance community for their ability to offer valuable opportunities to artists.
Through her ongoing work in education, choreography, and her new initiatives, Sindy Monson continues to make a significant impact on the world of Contemporary Ballet, shaping the next generation of dancers and choreographers while advancing the art form itself.
